I understand that most of us don’t learn much about emotion when we are young. In fact we often are discouraged from feeling distressing emotions or are punished for having feelings, which only makes things worse.
I believe that we are all doing the best we can and that we all want to learn and do better.
I have been a licensed marriage and family therapist for over 20 years. I’ve worked extensively with the LGBTQ community in San Francisco, New Zealand and Australia. I help individuals, couples, adolescents and families and I’m a clinical supervisor for interns learning to become licensed psychotherapists.
I work from many different modalities ranging from mindfulness-based DBT/CBT to a more psychodynamic approach. I’m a DBT trainer and have conducted trainings across the USA and overseas. I am also trained in EMDR.
When I work with couples I use an emotionally focused type of care where couples learn about and experience attachment with themselves, each other, and their families.
I’ve been fortunate to work with people from many diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds. I’m particularly experienced working with anxiety, depression, personality issues, substance misuse, and codependence.
Let me know if I can be of service to you.
