As queer people, most of us did not grow up in communities (or even families) that knew how to understand or support our experiences. This lack of attunement during childhood often leads to issues in adulthood. Many of us struggle with self-doubt, insecurity, shame, or relationship issues. We may find ourselves in compulsive or addictive patterns, but not know how to stop. Therapy with a queer therapist, who knows the unique experience of “growing up gay” can be profoundly healing.

As a therapist, my intention is to treat each individual with gentleness, humor, love, and respect.

My specialties include substance use, addiction recovery, anxiety, compulsive sexual behavior, sex addiction, love addiction, intimacy disorders, attachment issues, trauma, codependency, issues of identity and self-acceptance, adult children of alcoholics, and adult children of dysfunctional families.

One approach I use is called Brainspotting, which is a brain-based therapy, aimed at healing trauma. I think of it as “deleting the emotion around traumatic memories.” The memory won’t go away, but the painful emotion around the memory can.

A little bit about me: I am an openly gay male, who is in long term recovery from alcoholism and addiction. I received my Master’s in Counseling Psychology, with an emphasis in Drama Therapy from the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) in San Francisco. I have been in practice for more than 10 years and I love helping people. I am a travel enthusiast, who loves studying languages, yoga, and spirituality.
