As a therapist, my goal is to empower you to ultimately become your “own” therapist once our work together is completed. To do this, I assist my clients in first gaining an understanding of what has—and what has not—been going well for them. I then work actively to assist my clients develop and strengthen skills to use in their daily lives that will help them not only feel better in the short term, but feel more able to take on life’s many challenges. Throughout this process, I seek to create a warm, safe, and enjoyable space where clients feel free to laugh, cry, learn, and ultimately grow.

I am a gay man — an identity I am deeply proud of — and I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to focus my clinical and research efforts on working with the LGBTQIA+ community. During my predoctoral and postdoctoral training within the VA healthcare system, I focused on working with LGBTQ+ veterans. I also completed a clinical dissertation project that involved the creation of a measure to help understand how to improve healthcare experience of LGBTQIA+ community members. I have done research and clinical work with folks in polyamorous and other non-traditional relationships, as well as members of the BDSM/kink community. I am now a faculty member at the University of San Francisco, where I have the great pleasure of continuing my research while helping train a new generation of psychologists.

Aside from my work as a professor, researcher, and therapist, I love anything pop culture related, skiing, and my Australian Cattle Dog.

I sincerely hope you find the right therapist for you. I invite you to reach out for a free consultation to see if I may be a good fit for you.
