Couples Specialist

As a gay man I have had to learn to reject my internal negative thoughts as well as the external pressures to conform to societal expectations. Being gay at the peak of the AIDS crisis had a profound impact on me, and led to my decision to become a psychotherapist as well as an activist. Successfully navigating these challenges has helped me guide others through their own difficulties.

I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 20 years of experience, trained to provide psychotherapy by New York University. I won’t just sit and listen, but I will actively engage with you to help you understand your own experience, and to help you resolve your issues.

It takes courage to resist societal norms and to live as one’s self in a culture that is judgmental and often hostile. I can help you if you are struggling to overcome conflict regarding sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity. I work well with many non-binary, gender fluid clients, people living alternative sexual lifestyles, and with individuals experiencing HIV, addiction, depression, anxiety, and relationship issues.

I’m always learning new ways to help clients grow. I have advanced training at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy and I’m a credentialed addictions counselor.

I’ve noticed that sex can be an especially important issue for gay men. I’m currently working towards credentialing in sex therapy and I welcome clients who are struggling with any aspect of their sexual life.
